Folk legend Art Garfunkel says he’s so troubled by the direction of the country under Donald Trump that he’s considering leaving the United States altogether.
Garfunkel told The Guardian he’s had enough of where the country is headed under Donald Trump. “I don’t like America’s position at all,” the 84-year-old singer said. “I’m not aboard, and I’m thinking of leaving the country, frankly.”
Garfunkel, who has won eight Grammys across his solo work and his years with Paul Simon, has long leaned liberal and previously backed Trump opponents like Bernie Sanders.
His worries reach past politics. He pointed to a warming planet, rising water and widespread hunger, saying “it’s real that the planet is getting warmer, that the water’s rising, that so many people are starving.”
He also singled out the administration’s foreign moves. “When Donald Trump took over Venezuela, are those the new rules? Just take over a country and run it? It’s shocking,” he said.
Even so, Garfunkel sounded a note of patience about it all. “You think: how on Earth are we gonna change the presidency?” he said. “But Trump won’t last forever. So we’ve got to hope.”
