Yoga has always been about creating a healthy body and a healthy mind. The many varieties of yoga incorporate postures and stretches with attention to breathing. Some forms strongly emphasize relaxation and meditation.
For many people, the pandemic presented a perfect opportunity to explore the mental health benefits of yoga, particularly, as people seek ways to relieve the stress of COVID, social division and financial uncertainty.
The proliferation of online yoga offerings in the last few years also has made participation easier for people who have been reluctant or unable to go to a yoga class.
Wednesday at 9 a.m., host Angela Davis talks with a yoga instructor and a yoga researcher about the benefits of yoga and how the ancient practice is attracting a broader following.
And we want to hear from you, our listeners: Have you started doing yoga during the pandemic? What made you start and how is it affecting the rest of your life? Or if you’ve had a yoga practice for a while, what keeps you doing it? And, do you feel it improves your mental health as well as your physical health? Call us at 651-227-6000 or 800-242-2828 during the 9 a.m. hour. Or you can tweet @AngelaDavisMPR.
