Pack on some unwanted pounds during the coronavirus shutdown that are still difficult to shed? Or maybe that New Year’s resolution to finally get in shape is still gnawing at you.
Whatever the reason, if fitness is your goal, there are a host of programs being offered at the Pine Community Center to help you hit your mark.
Those looking to get their blood pumping early with a vigorous routine of calisthenics exercises supplemented by weight training can sign up for the Boot Camp fitness classes that meet weekdays at 6 a.m.
Kaylyn Begley, who coordinates the community center’s fitness programs and teaches some of the classes, said the Boot Camp program has recently been revamped to create more variety and better monitoring to help participants avoid injury.
“The additional variety makes the program more fun for participants,” she said. “And it also ensures that they aren’t overtraining certain muscle groups.”
In addition to many of the “nitty-gritty” exercises used in military training such as squat jumps, burpees, running and climbing stairs, the Boot Camp program has added a weight-training component that changes daily, Begley said.
While the Boot Camp promises to be an intense workout, it is open to people of all fitness levels, she said.
“People should not feel intimidated about getting involved in any of our programs because our instructors are skilled at gearing them to match anybody’s fitness level,” Begley said. “All a participant needs is a willingness to learn, have fun and work out hard and we’ll take care of the rest.”
Begley said many of the people signing up for programs are trying to get back into a fitness routine after realizing that it can be difficult to do it alone.
“A lot of people have been stuck at home trying to figure out a way to do some kind of workout routine and have been unsuccessful,” she said. “Or they’re just getting tired of working out alone at home and are looking for somewhere to do it with others.”
In addition to the daily Boot Camp program, Pine Community Center has cycling classes, a total body strength program, a walking program, Pilates, yoga, Zumba and more.
A list of all programs and a link to register is available on the center’s website.
