Taylor Swift performed her Toy Story 5 song, “I Knew It, I Knew You,” at Saturday’s Academy Museum Gala, where the audience included Steven Spielberg, Charlize Theron and Colman Domingo. Her conversations offstage could also matter to her Oscar prospects, judging by Rob Shuter’s account of the evening.
Shuter reports that Swift performed the original song alongside some of her biggest hits. His anonymous sources describe powerful Hollywood guests eager to meet her and a singer who spent time making those introductions count.

“Taylor worked that room like a master politician,” a Hollywood insider told Shuter. “She was gracious, charming and made everyone feel special. By the end of the night, Hollywood was eating out of her hand!”
Sources also told Shuter that Swift insisted on paying for her own ticket and took no fee for performing. Those reported choices put her in the room as both a paying guest and an entertainer donating her time.
A Best Original Song nomination remains a possibility. Shuter’s sources framed the evening as a chance to build relationships with people who could help her awards prospects.
“Oscar campaigns are about goodwill,” a source told Shuter. “Taylor just charmed the very people who could help make her an Academy Award winner!”
