Abdul El-Sayed Answers Trump’s Metal Detector Jab with a Lie Detector Challenge

Abdul El-Sayed, the Democrat trying to win Michigan’s open Senate seat, answered Donald Trump’s metal detector jab with a lie detector challenge. He made the offer at a Kalamazoo rally on the night of October 29, with Senator Elissa Slotkin beside him.

His terms were simple: he’d walk through a metal detector if Trump sat for a lie detector, then he named Epstein and the 2020 election as his two questions. He offered to do it “every day” if Trump did it “one time.”

The jab answered Trump directly. Days earlier, on October 25 in Port Huron, Trump said El-Sayed would “have to go through a metal detector before he’s allowed to go into the Senate,” compared blocking him to the passengers who fought the hijackers on United Flight 93, and said he’d come “to keep a jihadist Muslim Brotherhood member from becoming a United States senator.”

El-Sayed, who was born in Rochester Hills to Egyptian immigrant parents and would be the first Muslim elected to the Senate if he wins, has pushed back on the Brotherhood charge all week. Asked to disavow the group, he said, “Sure. Yeah, absolutely,” and called the question an assumption about his faith.

A Bridge Michigan review found no evidence he ever pledged support to the Muslim Brotherhood.

He faces Republican Mike Rogers on November 3. A Marist poll of likely voters taken October 15 to 18 put El-Sayed at 50 and Rogers at 48, inside the 4.3-point margin of error.
