The Credits broke it down seamlessly: Stone is the one following Leo’s path from heartthrob to Scorsese-era prestige, and Chalamet is actually the new Emma Stone.

The argument on The Credits podcast maps Emma Stone’s career onto Leonardo DiCaprio’s, beat for beat. DiCaprio came up as a 90s heartthrob, played Romeo, then peaked in that phase with Titanic. Stone’s version of Titanic, the hosts argue, is La La Land, the run of love-interest roles that made her a star.

Then both actors went arty. DiCaprio found Martin Scorsese; Stone found Yorgos Lanthimos and the string of strange, prestige films that followed. Both have Oscar wins to show for it.

The prediction is that Stone is in her prime right now and about to swing back to the center of the culture as a full-blown “charisma machine.”

The podcast pushes the parallel one step further too: if Stone is our DiCaprio, then Ryan Gosling is our Brad Pitt, with nobody more likeable, cooler, or more charismatic.
