Kenny Martin proposed to Whitney Fransway on Sept. 19 at Hotel Caesar Augustus in Anacapri, Italy, nearly 1,000 feet above the Bay of Naples. Fransway, 35, said she was shaking and crying before giving Martin, 42, what she called the easiest “yes.”
Martin chose the hotel because the couple had shared a private birthday dinner there the previous summer. Fransway had called it the most romantic date she’d ever had, so he reserved the same dining nook and terrace, then added white flowers, candles and a violinist.
He kept the plan hidden by arranging a fake hotel partnership through Fransway’s manager. He’d also flown to Florida under the cover of a work trip to ask her parents for their blessing in person.
One detail nearly derailed his vision: the flowers arrived pink. The florist replaced them with white flowers about 90 minutes before Fransway arrived and found Martin kneeling among flower petals. She also happened to have bare nails for the first time in 6 years.
“It honestly took me a moment to even process what was happening, and I couldn’t stop crying,” Fransway told People. “With the view and the flowers and the violin, it felt straight out of a storybook. I’m still pinching myself.”
Martin proposed with an elongated cushion-shaped diamond set on a gold band from New York jeweler Material Good. Afterward, the couple called family and friends, including Martin’s father, whom he recently reunited with after 25 years apart. Their reunion appeared during season 1 of “In the City.”
The couple met 2 years ago. Fransway moved from Los Angeles to New York City 1 year ago, and the Bravo series followed their relationship as Martin grieved his mother’s death. They planned to continue celebrating in Spain with some of Fransway’s close friends.
