Alana Thompson — the child once known to TV audiences as Honey Boo Boo — is now 21 and building a very different kind of life for herself, one centered on medicine rather than reality television.

Thompson is set to graduate from Regis University’s nursing program in the next year, and she’s already working at a hospital in Denver while chasing her goal of becoming a pediatric intensive care nurse.
She was 5 when a clip from Toddlers and Tiaras turned her into a punchline, and 6 when Here Comes Honey Boo Boo made her family famous on TLC. The show ran until she was 8, filmed in their hometown of McIntyre, Georgia.
“When I graduate I’ll be the only one in my family with a degree,” she told PEOPLE in a 2025 cover story. “I love that I’ve persevered past who people thought I was.”
Her boyfriend, Dralin Carswell, moved to Colorado with her when she enrolled. She narrated the 2025 Lifetime biopic I Was Honey Boo Boo, her first time speaking publicly about her family’s years in the spotlight.
She turns 21 today, and her mom June Shannon told PEOPLE in April there’s no graduation party planned yet. Just Vegas for the birthday.
