Russian Businessman Found Dead Weeks After Appearing In Epstein Files, Daughter Disputes Suicide Ruling

Umar Dzhabrailov, 67-year-old Chechen businessman and former Russian senator, was discovered with a gunshot wound to the head at 3 a.m. on March 2, 2026 in his luxury Moscow apartment.

A Luger pistol was found next to his body. He was still alive when discovered and was rushed to Sklifosovsky Institute hospital, where he died around 4 a.m. despite resuscitation efforts. No suicide note was found.

Russian authorities and state media are treating the death as a suicide. His daughter Alvina has publicly disputed the suicide ruling, stating that he was silenced because of his Epstein connections.
Dzhabrailov had a previous suicide attempt in April 2020 at a Moscow hotel but survived after his driver rushed him to the hospital.

He was one of Moscow’s wealthiest businessmen in the 1990s and 2000s, running hotels and shopping centers. He served in the Federation Council from 2004 to 2009 and ran for president against Vladimir Putin in 2000, finishing last with under 0.1% of the vote.
The story has generated significant conspiracy theories online, with many pointing to the timing between the Epstein file release and his death.
