Hilary Duff Emotionally Revealed Who Her New Song “We Don’t Talk” Is Really About

Hilary Duff is officially back!

Today, she officially dropped her new album “Luck… Or Something,” the first batch of music she’s released since her 2015 album “Breathe In. Breathe Out.” And let’s just say that it tackles a lot of mature themes that prove that Hilary isn’t a Disney kid anymore—she’s a full-fledged adult.

While the album references plenty of issues in longterm romantic relationships and isn’t afraid to explicitly mention sex acts (oh yeah, and she cusses now), one particular song has got people wondering what exactly is going on: “We Don’t Talk.”

Fans have speculated that the song may be about Hilary’s relationship with her sister, Haylie Duff, who she starred in “Material Girls” with in 2006. These lyrics specifically seemed to point at Hayley:

“‘Cause we come from the same home, the same blood”

Hilary confirmed that the rumors were true during her interview with CBS Mornings.

” It’s definitely about my sister, and just absolutely the most lonely part of my existence is not having my sister in my life at the moment,” she said. “I really struggled with thinking about including that on the record, but it’s funny, as a person that exists in the world without my other half, so many people are having that experience.”

When asked why she ended up adding the song to the album, she explained, “I think because it’s my truth, and then like I said, so many people are having this experience, and for me making a record was just going to be all about connection. I was never going to take outside songs from people, you know? Because what would the point be if it wasn’t me and it wasn’t my life.”

As she continued, she explained that it was difficult for her to write openly about her life without fan speculation, especially since she’s been a public figure since she was young.

“Like I said, it’s hard because I am me, and people know everything about my life since I was a child, you know?” she said. “I didn’t necessarily choose that part. But it’s my reality and so it was honestly healing to say. It’s hard to watch your life unfold on the internet sometimes, with talking heads on TikTok speculating this or that and the other, and sometimes they’re wrong, and sometimes they’re right, and all of that is just… a crazy thing to process.”

Here are the full lyrics to the song “We Don’t Talk”:

I’m not sure when it happened

Not even sure what it was about

If I did something different

Would you feel something different?

Would you at least let me hear you out?

‘Cause we come from the same home, the same blood

A different combination, but the same lock

People ask me how you’re doing, I wanna say amazing

But the truth is that I don’t know

What I always end up saying is

How we don’t talk, we don’t talk, talk about it

We don’t talk about anything anymore

We don’t talk, we don’t talk, talk about it

We don’t talk about anything anymorе

Emotional eviction

No more sentimental overlap

And if it’s ‘cause you’re jealous

God knows I would sell it all, then break you off the bigger half

‘Cause we come from the same home, the same blood

A different explanation of the same thought

People ask me if I’ve seen you

And honestly I hate it

‘Cause the truth is that I need to

But there’s no way to relay it now if we don’t talk

We don’t talk, talk about it

We don’t talk about anything anymore

We don’t talk, we don’t talk, talk about it

We don’t talk about anything anymore

Let’s have it out

I’ll hear you out, you’ll hear me out on the couch

Get back to how we were as kids

Break it down

So sick of being so sad about

How we don’t talk, and you won’t talk about it

We don’t talk, we don’t talk, talk about it

We don’t talk about anything anymore

We don’t talk, we don’t talk, talk about it (Don’t talk)

We don’t talk about anything anymore
