Jonah Hill says jiu jitsu has him ready to “annihilate” anyone who still sees him as the fat guy from Superbad.

He took up the martial art in 2018, saying he was weary of it at first because it was something his high school bullies practiced. Now, Hill joked that his body “is begging” him not to love jiu jitsu as much as he does because of how hard he trains. His wife also reminds him that he’s not going to become a professional fighter.
The “annihilate” comment came from his August appearance on the SmartLess podcast where Hill said, “My favorite thing is people are like, ‘Oh, Jonah Hill, f*cking f*t guy from Superbad.’ And I’m like, ‘I would f*cking annihilate you, dude. I’m not kidding you. Try it. If you see me, try it, dude. Bring it. Who’s got it?'”

Some listeners clowned on Hill’s athletic skills, with one person on Threads joking, “I’ve decided to get in the best shape of my life in order to beat the fuck out of Jonah Hill”

Others thought his aggressive phrasing was a little spooky given his past controversy with his ex-girlfriend Sarah Brady. In July 2023, Brady posted screenshots of text messages from their relationship, saying they showed a pattern of controlling behavior and urging other women to recognize the signs.

The messages included a list Hill sent laying out conditions for staying together: no surfing with men, no modeling, no posting swimsuit or sexual photos, and cutting off friendships with women he considered a bad influence. He called them his “boundaries.” Therapists and critics who reviewed the texts pushed back on that framing, pointing out that a boundary describes your own behavior, not demands placed on someone else’s.

Hill and his team never publicly responded to the messages or disputed that he sent them.
