Two new lovers are entering the rink. Justice Smith and Charlie Gillespie are joining Season 2 as Harris and Troy, a pairing the creators say connected instantly with the vulnerability at the core of the characters.
Justice Smith and Charlie Gillespie are stepping into “Heated Rivalry” as Harris Drover and Gillespie’s Troy Barrett, two characters drawn from Rachel Reid’s “Game Changers” books. Troy is a hockey player traded to Ottawa after cutting ties with a former teammate accused of sexual assault, and Harris is the team’s social media manager who sets out to draw him out of his shell.
They lead Season 2 alongside Connor Storrie and Hudson Williams, who broke out in Season 1 as Ilya Rozanov and Shane Hollander. That first season followed what the official logline calls “a secret fling between two fresh-faced rookies” that turned into a years-long story of love, denial and self-discovery.
Smith’s credits include “I Saw the TV Glow” and “Now You See Me: Now You Don’t,” while Gillespie has appeared in “One Night Only,” “Splitsville” and “Suze.” The Crave series, from creator and director Jacob Tierney, airs on HBO Max in the U.S.
“Rachel Reid has given us two beautifully layered characters in Harris and Troy who you can’t help but root for,” Tierney and executive producer Brendan Brady said. “Justice and Charlie do exactly that. They immediately connected with the vulnerability and resilience at the core of these characters.”
