The Best Korean Thriller Of The Past Decade Is Headed To IMAX Theaters In February

Bong Joon-ho’s Parasite electrified the world back in 2019. It set all sorts of records, won some of the most prestigious awards in cinema, and it helped break down barriers for mainstream audiences. And soon, you’ll be able to experience it again in one of the best theatrical settings available.

IMAX is celebrating five years of Parasite with special, limited screenings beginning February 7, 2025. Check your local theaters to see when it’s playing in your area, because not every IMAX will have the same number of screenings available.

If you’ve somehow managed to avoid Parasite for the past half-decade, the film is amazing. It is a dark thriller that includes elements of horror and comedy to tell a powerful story about economic disparity and closely related topics. The movie follows the low-income Kim family as they slyly work their way into being hired by the rich Park family in various household roles.

Parasite was the first (and so far, only) movie to win both Best International Feature Film and Best Picture at the Academy Awards (in 2020). The film also won Best Motion Picture, Foreign Language at the Golden Globes the same year, and while accepting the award, director Bong Joon-ho made his famous quote that all movie fans should take to heart: “Once you overcome the one-inch tall barrier of subtitles, you will be introduced to so many more amazing films.”

So yourself a favor. If you’ve been avoiding Parasite because it’s subtitled, just go see it. The IMAX screens will make the “one-inch tall barrier” significantly taller, but that just makes it easier to get over.
