Planet Fitness opening new location in Saline – MLive.com

SALINE, MI — Saline can expect a Planet Fitness location to open in late November or early December.

The gym that prides itself on being a judgement-free zone is going to take up nearly 23,000 square feet at the former Powerhouse Gym location at 946 E Michigan Ave.

The franchise has over 2,300 locations across not only the United States, but throughout the world.

“We have so many different types of machines in our gym that try to cater to everybody,” Ashley Harden, project manager for Saline’s Planet Fitness, said. “We have our strength equipment, dumbbells, treadmills, ellipticals, climbmills — we have a little bit of everything.”

Saline’s Planet Fitness will offer standard gym equipment, and also feature some new machines that other locations don’t have.

Harden said Saline is one of the franchise’s first locations to have a RelaxSpace Wellness Pod. This machine gives Planet Fitness black card members a place to relax and unwind.

“It’s just for members to get in, relax, reset and focus on their mental health,” Harden said.

The machine provides a multisensory experience for up to 15 minutes. Members have the option to watch different videos, choose different scents and use its heated seat or fan.

The location will also have spin bikes that will give gym members an option to virtually adjust its programming, follow instructor led classes and stream music, movies or shows.

“It does kind of give you the feeling of being on a ride outside — it’s just a very, very smooth spin bike,” Harden said.

Along with this, the gym will also have hybrid tanning beds available for black card members. Harden said the tanning bed’s hybrid light technology provides a “more natural looking tan,” using red light bulbs and UV bulbs.

Harden said this location is excited to soon be a part of the Saline community, and to share what Planet Fitness is all about.

“We just really look forward to bringing an atmosphere of that judgment-free zone and bringing the community together,” she said.
