A new commercial development in Greenville is bringing together tenants across the health and wellness space to create a “wellness campus” concept unique to the Upstate.
Basecamp is billed as a collaborative community of medical practices, a fitness studio, a possible restaurant and more, which will be “supporting all aspects of health,” according to the developers.
Located on Laurens Road at the corner of Blair Street, the campus is the work of David Jolson, founder of Upstate Spine and Sport, and Mary Brittain Blankenship, founder of Spruce MD Integrative Medicine, both of which will serve as anchor tenants in the space.
“The way we envision it, someone could come on campus and get a massage, grab a cup of coffee with friends or a healthy bite to eat, go see their medical doctor or dietician, maybe get some acupuncture, then go grab a workout,” Jolson said. “Or any number of combinations. We’re creating a place where hopefully people can make a day out of it while supporting local business and improving their general health and wellness.”
Construction has already begun, with the campus set to open tentatively in the fall. In addition to the two anchor tenants, Alloy personal training center has come onboard, with three other tenants yet to be announced.
The concept of a wellness campus was born out of the idea of creating a true wellness center in Greenville, but Jolson and Blankenship, neither of whom were developers before starting this project, realized that a campus sharing a wellness theme could accomplish that goal while allowing for each business to operate independently.
“Spruce Integrative Medicine is one of the best in the country as far as integrative medicine goes,” Jolson said, “and not to toot our own horn, but we’re pretty unique in what we do as well. So we felt we had unique clinics and businesses. We can never do what they do to the level they do it, and vice versa, so it became logical to all still control how we treat people while still having this underlying vision of a shared community.”
Tenants include
Upstate Spine and Sport
The pain relief and performance clinic offers treatment from chiropractors, massage therapists, acupuncturists and stretch therapists. The clinic serves as the official team chiropractor of Furman University, the Greenville Drive, Hincapie and the Greenville Triumph. It specializes in treating lower back pain, sciatica, neck pain, headaches and shoulder pain.
Spruce MD Integrative Medicine
The alternative medical practice focuses on nutrition and emotional well-being, using noninvasive treatments whenever possible. Its namesake, “Integrative Medicine,” is the practice of combining conventional and alternative therapies to treat illness and chronic disease.
Alloy Personal Training
This speciality gym has been offering group personal training for more than 30 years, focusing on creating unique training routines for individuals all fitness levels. Rather than hire a personal trainer for a one-on-one session, small groups receive the same attentiveness of a personal trainer while still maintaining the motivation of a class-style setting.
Space available
Three spaces in the community are still open, including a 1,500-square-foot space, a 2,000-square-foot space, and a 2,240-square-foot space.
