Find a solution to stress, at your library – Abilene Reporter-News

April is Stress Awareness Month and the Abilene Public Library has some great resources to help you relieve and manage stress. From reading, self-help, informational to cooking and crafting; you can find it all at your library.

Informational books on stress management can be found at your library, including the following titles to get you started. “Everyday Trauma: Remapping the Brain’s Response to Stress, Anxiety, and Painful Memories” by Tracey Shors, “Win the Day: 7 Daily Habits to Help You Stress Less & Accomplish More” by Mark Batterson, and “Cross-Stitch to Calm: Stitch and De-Stress with 40 Simple Patterns” by Leah Lintz.

Crafting is a good way to enjoy some calm activities that relieve stress and anxiety. We have a variety of crafting options at the library that will give you the tools and instructions you may need to get started on a craft project. 

Our Creation Station maker space includes a variety of supplies and equipment, including: Cricut Maker3, Laminator, Sewing Machines, Comb Binder, Heat Presses, Wood Burning Pen, and more!

We also carry Maker Kits for you to check-out and take home for 3 weeks that include some beginner equipment, leaving you only to purchase a few supplies to make your crafting successful. Maker Kits include: Crochet, Loom Knitting, Embroidery, Soap Making, Drawing Anime, Hand Lettering, and more!

The Abilene Public Library also has a variety of databases accessible from home with your library that can help you de-stress and enjoy some relaxing activities and courses.

Creativebug – Take advantage of this one-stop resource for accessing thousands of online art and craft classes that cover a wide range of areas including quilting, sewing, jewelry making, art & design, and more. Sign-up for free to save your favorite courses.

AtoZ Food America – Explore American cuisine in all its forms through this database containing recipes, in all course categories, for six US regions, all 50 states, and 33 ethnic cuisines. Access full recipes, see photos, and even make use of instructional videos that will all help you to become a better cook.

Health Source: Consumer Edition –  Provides access to nearly 80 full-text consumer health magazines including American Fitness, Better Nutrition, Harvard Health Letter, Men’s Fitness, Muscle & Fitness, Vegetarian Times, and more.
