3rd District Councilmember Jake Gibbs died unexpectedly two years ago

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A book drive for the late 3rd District Councilmember Jake Gibbs will take place later this month. The Lexington Councilmember died unexpectedly two years ago.

Mayor Linda Gorton shared details about the upcoming drive in a tweet, saying, “Jake was passionate about so much, including his constituents, our tree canopy, and books. In recognition of his love of books, Jake’s Birthday Book Drive is focused on collecting books to send to 18 countries through the @intlbookproject.”

According to Mayor Gorton, this year’s book drive will take place March 14-20, the week of Gibb’s birthday.

The International Book Project is accepting books at the High Street YMCA, Good Foods Co-op, West Sixth Brewing, and the BCTC Newtown Campus/Classroom Building.

“We all miss Jake and his commitment to our city, and this is one way we can keep our memories of him alive,” said Mayor Gorton.

Magazines, self-help books, cookbooks, gardening books, religious books and dummies books will not be accepted. Also, books with broken bindings, torn, missing or  yellowed pages, excessive underlining or highlighting will not be accepted.

According to the International Book Project, if you have more than 25 books to donate, you should set up an appointment for drop-off by calling 859-254-6771 or emailing director@intlbookproject.org.
