Talk About Woodville: Two Villages to host panel on self care during COVID-19 – The News-Messenger

It was just two years ago that our world as we knew it changed almost overnight. We went from typical days in busy lives to nearly everything shutting down within a very short time.

Kids began attending school virtually. Many adults began working from home. Concerts and sporting events were canceled. High school seniors missed out on prom and graduation ceremonies. People lost jobs and lost loved ones. It was a constant topic in the news, social media posts, and conversations. The shutdown that was supposed to only last two weeks went on for months. Who knew such a microscopic little virus could do so much damage and cause so much stress?

Now that we know more about COVID-19, it no longer dominates so many aspects of our lives, but it’s still here. For some people, it is still causing stress and unexpected burdens, financially and emotionally.

To help combat feelings of being tired or overwhelmed due to the pandemic and other stressors, Two Villages is hosting a town hall event titled “Empowering Parents: Importance of Self Care.”

This virtual town hall event will feature a panel of experts who will discuss self-care for adults, addressing how to ask for help, how to keep balance in your life, and how to create an environment that is supportive. Panelists include Brian Davis, M.A., co-founder of Reflect Wellness of Maumee; Dr. Ryan Travis, M.D., ProMedica Memorial Hospital in Fremont; and Henrietta Whelan, MSW, Executive Director of Bayshore Counseling Services, Sandusky.

Parents, grandparents, and adults working or volunteering with children are invited to attend this free virtual meeting via Zoom from 1 to 3 p.m. March 6. Registration is required to receive the link for the meeting. For anyone without computer access, Trinity Lutheran Church is hosting a Watch Party in its education building. The church is located at 412 Fremont St., Elmore.

To register for either the Zoom meeting or the Watch Party, send an email to OurTwoVillages@gmail.com.

Two Villages is an organization formed in 2009 by residents of Woodville and Elmore as a response to young lives lost in local communities. Over the years, they have hosted town hall meetings on topics such as addiction and recovery, human trafficking, and youth creating positive relationships.
